Banco Nacional Inks Deal with Paypal

According to press releases by Banco Nacional and information at Paypal Costa Rica Site , local businesses and individuals may now receive money collected via Paypal in Costa Rica.  Previously, one was required to open a US based account in order to withdraw money from sales or transfers made through Paypal.

This is a boon for local businesses and individuals, who can find it difficult to establish an effective way for receiving payments online.  It will also help foreign residents who may find it easier to receive money from overseas family and friends via Paypal.  Or even offer a convenient way to transfer money from US accounts to Costa Rica.

Local Doctors Make Key Leukemia Discovery

Leukemia is the blood disease that found most commonly among adults and number two with children. In 2010, 205 persons were detected with leukemia in this country.

Cell Phone Users Don't Pay for Information

If you needed a number and had to call the operator to get it, it used to cost you 250 colones. But not any more.

SUTEL, the telecommunications regulation agency last week ruled that free information is a right of cell phone customers -- not an extra service.

 

CR 58th in Technology

Costa Rica is number 58 in the world in technology, not bad for a developing country, taking into account that the World Report on Information Technology lists 142 countries.

Still, it is far from what President Laura Chinchilla or astronaut-national hero Dr. Franklin Chang would like to see. Both have made strong statements about improving education and the government and several charities have given hundreds of laptops to children to spur technical prowess.

"Sustainable" Home Erected in Atenas
